The IOS app Please No Garlic allows the user to scan a food product. It will check the information stored on Open Food Facts. The information obtained from Open Food Facts will be mached agains the no garlic diet.
After scanning a barcode the app will display an assesment screen:
- YELLOW - no negative ingredients listed;
- ORANGE - suspect ingredients listed;
- RED - bad ingredients listed;
- GRAY - the product is not yet listed on Open Food Facts. You can add it there yourself and it will picked up by Please No Garlic;
The no garlic diet consists of the following attributed are taken into account:
- has no garlic
- ingredients: garlic
- possibly has garlic
- ingredients: broth, herbs, spices
There is support for the Open Food Facts folksonomy tag ingredients:garlic. This tag can have three values:
- yes, a red colour bar is shown;
- no a mint colour bar;
- no-confirmed a green bar.
This allows users to specify their experience (good or bad) with a product and allows producers to explain the ingredients a bit more. The latter also requires proof on Open Food Facts, like a screen grab of the conversation with the producer.
